Community

The Real Estate Doctor is heavily involved in our communities. Here are two recent examples:

Community Initiative to Support Mental Health Wellbeing and Suicide Prevention. Walk ‘n’ Talk For Life Mt Coot-tha

Jeff initiated the inner western Brisbane chapter of Walk ‘n’ Talk for Life, Mount Coot-Tha.

About Walk ‘n’ Talk For Life
As a community we support each other in the name of mental health wellbeing and suicide prevention. The aim is to bring people and communities together to support one another, to make connections, to maybe lend an ear, to offer empathy and to share the love, compassion and understanding that is often missing in our communities.

Mount Coot-Tha Chapter on FaceBook (like us on Facebook to get in touch with this group)

We meet on the last Sunday in the month at 8:30 a.m. (7:30 a.m. in Summer) at JC Slaughter Falls Picnic Area. Every attendee receives a free Walk ‘n’ Talk For Life T-Shirt. We walk for approximately 60 minutes and if you want to talk you can talk. We then enjoy a free sausage sizzle. This community activity/event is open to all. No RSVP required just turn up and look for the yellow marquee. You are encouraged to bring a friend.  You don’t have to live in the Mount Coot-tha area to participate. We want you to love the idea and take the concept back into your community also.

Our inaugural Walk ‘n’ Talk For Life Mount Coot-tha was on Sunday, 27th Sept, and 17 community members, aged 9 to 80 years old, and their friends came together and enjoy a morning of walking and talking and finished with a great sausage sizzle.

MindFx Limited – Better Recovery Pathways for Young Adults with Challenging Mental Illness and Drug Miss-use

Jeff is Director and Co-founder of MindFx Limited. www.mindfx.com.au

Mental illness is becoming the biggest health challenge for young people in our history, with one in four having a diagnosed mental health condition. It is now internationally recognised that mental illness, economic injury, and burnout are the fourth wave of COVOD-19. The present recovery pathway for young adults (aged 18-27 years) who have challenging mental illness (approx. 500,000 in Australia) is inefficient and ineffective and has fallen well short of community expectations. Sadly, this has had a significant negative impact on everyone. A passionate group of professionals has come together to deliver ‘Better Recovery Pathways’ using a community-focused model of psycho-social recovery support involving intensely delivered wrap-around support services.  These services are delivered under the care of dedicated Mental Health Coaches, and are enjoyed in a welcoming, co-located service centre rich with volunteer mentors, proven holistic therapies and activities, where clients are able to build connections with social enterprises and take an active role in designing their own recovery plan. MindFx is ever so slowly raising the $500,000 to commence operations to deliver programs to an initial cohort of 20 clients. Once MindFx demonstrates measurable results and outcomes, government funding is expected to be offered on a recurrent basis covering 95% of operational costs.  Our vision is to expand the MindFx model to all Australians. This is a unique opportunity for us to come together as a community and make a life-changing difference to the futures of these vulnerable adults .
